Allen Zach, 65, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at his home on the family farm, near Swisher, where he grew up. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church near Ely. Burial will be in Dupont Cemetery near Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.

Allen Lee Zach, son of Vernon Joe and Martha Louise (Dvorak) Zach, was born December 22, 1949. He is survived by his son Joshua Allen, his daughter Jenna Rae, his mother Martha, his brother Larry V. (Marcia) Zach, nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Rick.

Al graduated from Prairie High School, Cedar Rapids, where he excelled in wrestling. As a senior he was State Champion in his weight class at the 1969 Iowa State Wrestling Tournament. He wrestled for a short time at Iowa State University and received a BA degree in Industrial Education. He served his country as a member of the Iowa National Guard.

Al and Marjie Carson were married on August 7, 1976, and to this union their two beautiful children were born. Al and Marjie later divorced. He taught school and coached wrestling in New Hampton, and later at Newton. Returning home to the Cedar Rapids area he worked at Kwik-Way Manufacturing and then at Rockwell Collins until his retirement.

Al had a zest for life! Skydiving, water skiing, snow skiing, horseback riding, and gardening were among his many past times. He had an incredible mechanical aptitude with a great passion for working on cars, boats, and anything mechanical. Al loved the farm and country life.

He was a loving father, son and brother.

Al’s family appreciates the love, loyalty and support of his many friends.
