Dies At Age Of 87
L. A. Howard Was Pioneer Resident of Jasper County – Came Here in 1855
L. A. Howard of this city died early last evening at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 21 days. He had been in poor health for some time. For more than 38 years he had been a resident of Jasper county – having come here in 1855 from Hirkemir county, New York. He entered some land from the government and in 1857 he returned to his home state where he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine B. Stillman whose death occurred in 1876.
He leaves three children: Mrs. L. N. Blackwell and Herbert Howard of this city and a son, Seymour Howard of Pleasantville. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Morgan chapel. Burial will be made in the Newton cemetery.
