Arnold Joshua Klein was born September 17, 1899 on a farm west of Pella, Marion County, Iowa, the son of Henry G. and Ellen Schippers Klein. He attended the Central Academy in Pella.
On February 27, 1924, he was united in marriage with Jeanette Paltzer, formerly of Jasper County, in Pella, and to this union two sons were born: Howard Henry and Argyle Gene.
Mr. and Mrs. Klein farmed in Marion County west of Pella for six years following their marriage and then near Pleasantville, Iowa, where they lived for forty-three years. Arnold retired in April 1973 when he and his wife moved to Pella where they were making their home at the time of his death.
He passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, October 22, 1977 at his home on Broadway St. in Pella at the age of 78 years, one month and five days. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette; his two sons and their wives: Howard and Marilyn Klein of Des Moines; Argyle Gene and Jacque Beaman Klein of Virginia Beach, VA; and five grandchildren: Alan, John, Jeffrey, Barbara, and Gregory Klein. Arnold leaves two sisters of an original family of six: Miss Hendrika (“Hattie”) Klein and Jennie, Mrs. Henry Hoekstra, both of Pella. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: John and Gerrit Klein; and a sister, Marie, Mrs. John Van Zee.
Arnold made profession of his faith at an early age at the First Reformed Church of Pella and was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Pella at the time of his death. He will always be remembered for his spiritful personality exemplified during his retirement.
Funeral Services – Monday, October 24, 1977 at Trinity Reformed Church, Pella, Rev. Wayne M. Hall officiating.
Casket Bearers: “Nephews” – Doward Sjaardema, Bernie Dunsbergen, Bernie Menninga, Gerald Hoekstra, Perry Klein, Arnold H. Van Zee.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella, Iowa.
