David Evans, Former Colfax Resident, Died
Death Came at Home of Brother In Madrid Tuesday, June 13th
David Evans, for many years a resident of Colfax, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 13th, at the home of his brother, Gomer Evans Sr., in Madrid. He had been in ill health for many months preceding his death, but became much worse the night before he died.
Although Mr. Evans had not made Colfax his home for eighteen years preceding his death, he had visited here several times since leaving and was well known to many Colfax residents.
David Evans was born November 10, 1859, in Aberdeen, Wales, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Evans. When a youth of 18, his family came to America. Mr. Evans resided for some time in Ohio and then came to Iowa, making Colfax his home. Eighteen years ago he moved to Madrid. He was 73 years, 7 months and 3 days of age at the time of his demise.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon from the Evans home in Madrid, with the Rev. Dr. Clarence Defur in charge. Following the services, the body was brought to Colfax where short services were held at the grave and interment was had.
In addition to his brother in Madrid, he is survived by another brother and one sister, Rees W. Evans of Youngton, Ohio, and Mrs. Sarah James of Cashocton, Ohio.
