Albert Elden Jaimes, 88, of Newton died on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends immediately after the service with a lunch at the funeral home. Memorials to Skiff Hospice, Salvation Army, Jasper County Animal Rescue League, or the donor’s choice may be left at the funeral home.

Albert was born on January 28, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri, at one day of age he was adopted by Albert and Fela (Solis) Jaimes and they made their home in Clarinda. As a child, Albert lived in Ida Grove and Villisca for a short time before returning to Clarinda, where he graduated from high school. After high school he worked in the meat department at Safeway and then served his country in the Merchant Marines. Albert was united in marriage with Ruth Marsh on September 28, 1947 in Shenandoah. Upon returning from the service, he began his 38 year career with Hy-Vee, starting in the meat department and later becoming store manager. In December of 1953, they moved to Newton. He retired from Hy-Vee in January of 1985. After retirement he volunteered to run the Newton Country Club for a year. Albert was a member of the Lions Club and Rotary. He was a self taught man and taught himself to become very skilled at the computer. He also enjoyed golfing and traveling. Albert is survived by his wife, Ruth Jaimes of Newton; three children, Marsha Mullin of Newton, Alberta Finley of Des Moines, and J.R. (Joan) Jaimes of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Gerdes, Jamie Mullin, Allison Rumbaugh, Megan Barbarich, and Melissa (Matt) Reiss; and his seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 21 Jan 2015.
