Thomas Dow Succumbs

Born in Jasper County, Dies of Malignant Disease in Iowa City

Thomas Dow, 57 died Sunday morning at the State University of Iowa hospital, Iowa City, where he had been a patient for the past 11 weeks, suffering with a malignant disease.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30, at the Morgan funeral home, with interment in the Newton Union cemetery.

Mr. Dow was born Nov. 18, 1887, in Jasper county, to Albert and Mary Dow, and lived all his life in and around the county, attending the county schools. At the time of his death, he made his home on a farm near Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lizzie, who died at the age of four, and two brothers, Jasper, who died in infancy, and Frank, at the age of 58.

Surviving relatives include three brothers, John, James and Arthur, of Newton, and one sister, Mrs. Birdie Westphall, of Minneapolis, Minn., also several nieces and nephews.

When a young boy, Mr. Dow attended the Christian church. ~ The Newton Daily News, November 12, 1945, page 1.
