Martha Elizabeth Blakely was born in Indiana November 6, 1859, and passed away at the home of her son John, March 2, 1923, aged 63 years, 3 months and 23 days.
She was united in marriage to George Johnston April 21, 1878. To this union eight children were born. The deceased was preceded in death by her husband and three children, Lora, Harley and Nellie Belle. The ones left to mourn her loss are Charley D. of Lovilia, Mrs. C. E. Brunner, of Prairie City, John A. of Swan, Forrest of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Mrs. W. G. Crossen of Eddyville. Also, fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Since her youngest daughter’s marriage, she has made her home with her children, going from one home to another, doing what she could to help on life’s journey. Her kind words and loving ways will be missed by all who knew her. Her last words were that she was ready to go, that all was well with Jesus.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Brunner, on Sunday afternoon. Burial was at Vandalia.
