Daly, Fred – 1873-1926

Fred Daly was born in Dublin, Ireland, August 24, 1873, and died December 25, 1926, aged fifty-three years, four months and one day.
At the age of four years, having lost his father, he came to New York with his mother and two brothers. The following year he went back to Ireland where he lived with his grandmother for fie years. When he was ten years of age he returned to America and made his home with an uncle in Ohio. The following year he removed to Otley, Iowa, living there and in the vicinity of Newton, Iowa, until he was twenty-four years of age. In 1897 he came to Prairie City, Iowa, where he made his home for the remainder of his life.
March 1, 1899, he was united in marriage to Lola E. Sullivan, who receded him in death January 21, 1925. To this union five children were born, Ralph C., June Nita, who died in infancy, Elsie Effie, Ernest Fred, and George Craig.
September 4, 1926, he was united in marriage to Florence Stanley, who cared fro him tenderly during his last illness.
For twenty-three years, Fred has faithfully served the patrons of Rural Route No. 1, Prairie City making many friends by his unswerving devotion to the service. To him an accommodation was no inconvenience.
He was made a Master Mason February 9, 1909, and has been active in Masonic circles since, having served as District Lecturer, also as Master of Preston Lodge, Prairie City.
In 1924 the deceased transferred his membership from Mount Zion to the Prairie City M.E. church, of which society he has since been a member.
Numerous friends join with the bereaved relatives in mourning the untimely passing of an unusually friendly character.
The funeral service was held in the M. E. church of Prairie City with Rev. Moore officiating. The Masonic service was conducted by Rev. Williams of Des Moines.
Interment was in the family plot in Westview cemetery, Prairie City.
