CHARITON – Ira Raymond “Jack” Brock, 67, of Chariton, formerly of Newton, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Knoxville Veterans Hospital in Knoxville.
Graveside services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the V.A. Hospital Chapel in Knoxville with the Rev. Tim Johnson, interim pastor of First Christian church in Newton, and the Rev. Robert Arnold, chaplain of Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Knoxville, officiating. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.
The son of John W. and Dorothy (Stoner) Brock, he was born Oct. 28, 1937, in rural Prairie city. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1956. He was a resident of Auburn Manor in Chariton for 18 years, but lived most of his life in Newton. He was employed at the Maytag Hotel and served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed history and reading about past cultures and civilizations. He also enjoyed keeping up on current events by reading the newspaper and enjoyed his many friends at Auburn Manor.
Survivors include his father, John Brock of Newton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Ernie Bell and Sue and Bud Pickett, all of Newton; a brother, James Brock of Newton; and his family and friends at Auburn Manor in Chariton.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
