"Willis W. Beard Dies Thursday; Services Sunday
COLFAX-MINGO -- Willis Wesley Beard, 85, of Colfax, a longtime resident of the Mingo community, died Thursday at Embassy Manor in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Walters Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. David A. Pacholke, pastor of the Mingo United Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be at Graham Cemetery near Mingo.
Survivors are his wife, Paulina; a son, Delmar of Newton; three daughters, Mrs. Laurel Akins of Mingo, Mrs. Verla Shill of Cambridge, and Mrs. Neva Helling of Hopedale, Ill.; seven grandchildren; five great-grand-children; two brothers, Roy of Des Moines, and Andrew of Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Calhoun of Ames.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ina Mary, Mar. 28, 1938.
Mr. Beard was a member of the Mingo United Methodist Church.
A retired farmer, he had also been employed as a Jasper County maintenance man for 16 years.
The son of Bion W. and Emma McKeever Beard, he was born Sept. 7, 1885, at Mingo.
He was married to Ina Mary Harter, Nov. 26, 1908 at Mingo. In March of 1939 he married Paulina Luella Garver at Newton.
