Pella, IA.-Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Sully for BERNICE TOOL of Pella. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Mrs. Tool, 80, died of cancer Tuesday at Pella Community Hospital.
A Jasper County resident all her life, she moved to Pella Community Nursing Home about three years ago. She had been a homemaker and a member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, Richard of Libertyville, IL; a daughter, Karen Poortinga, a brother, Earl Hendricks, and a sister, Margaret Vander Werff, all of Reasnor; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call after 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Garden Chapel Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or Hospice of Pella.

Bernice Tool

PELLA - Bernice Hendricks Tool, 80, of Pella, a former longtime resident of Jasper County and the Galesburg area, died Tuesday, July 16, at the Pella Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church west of Sully.

The Rev. Robert Waters, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home after 11:20 a.m. Thursday. Family visitation will be held at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials to the St. Andrew's Lutheran Church or Hospice of Pella may be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tool, who has resided for the past 3 1/2 years at the Pella Community Nursing Home, is survived by a son, Richard of Libertyville, Ill.; a daughter, Karen (Mrs. Melvin) Poortinga of Reasnor; four grandchildren; a sister, Margaret (Mrs. Lawrence) Vander Werff of Reasnor; and a brother, Earl Hendricks of Reasnor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Floyd, May 20, 1972, a daughter, Harriet Marie Tool, and four brothers, William, Freeman, Lester and Clifford Hendricks.

Mrs. Tool was a member of the St. Andrew's Lutheran Church west of Sully.

The daughter of George and Hattie Castorf Henricks, she was born Nov. 22, 1910 in Galesburg.

She was married to Floyd Tool Dec. 24, 1932. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1991
