Services Held For Woman Who Drowns in Tank
Special to The Daily News
COLFAX, Iowa. June 6 – Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the John Van Maan home between Prairie City and Colfax for Mrs. Van Maan, who was found drowned in a stock tank near the windmill of her home Tuesday morning at 5 o’clock.
At 1 o’clock Tuesday morning she complained of her limbs aching and at the suggestion of her husband arose and walked around to aid circulation. She returned to her bed and apparently was much relieved. When Mr. Van Maan arose at 5 o’clock he found his wife gone. He immediately searched the house the premises and later found Mrs. Van Maan’s body submerged in a tank half filled with water. Neighbors and the physicians who arrived on the scene shortly after she was found, are puzzled to learn how she could force herself to drown in the small amount of water found in the tank. The supposition is that she may have fallen and was stunned and was unable to get out.
About a year ago Mrs. Van Maan underwent an operation and has been in ill health since that time. If suicide was the cause of the death, ill health would be assigned as the reason.
Mrs. Van Maan is survived by her husband and seven children, the youngest, of whom is 10 years of age.
