Merlin D. Brubaker, 93, of Bettendorf, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus. Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM Monday, December 1, 2014 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the mortuary. Burial will be in National Cemetery Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to Bettendorf Lions Club or St. John's United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.

Merlin was born on September 10, 1921 in Haxton, Colorado, the son of Earl and Mamie (Buckingham) Brubaker. He was united in marriage to Vivian Maureen Barrett on February 13, 1943 in Missouri. He served in the Army during WWII in the South Pacific. He had been a funeral director from 1946 until this year having served the following funeral homes: Bickford Funeral Home, Greenfield, IA; Vieth Funeral Home, Oakland, IA; Van Dyke Funeral Home, Pella, IA; Dunns Funeral Home, Des Moines, IA (1954-1965); McGinnis Funeral Home, Bettendorf; Runge Mortuary, where he retired from after active service in 1986 after 14 ½ years; and recently had worked at Orr's Mortuary (1986-present). His memberships included: Bettendorf Lion's Club where he was active in helping with the Iowa Lion's Eye Bank; VFW; American Legion and St. John's United Methodist Church. He loved and enjoyed the church's Jesus Country Services, congregational singing and volunteering at the church with their gardening and many activities.
