Joyce Marlene Kurimski, 78, of Newton and formerly of Oskaloosa passed into the loving arms of family and friends who have been waiting for her, November 7, 2014, at the Careage of Newton.

Joyce Marlene Holliday Gorley Kurimski, daughter of Clarence and Anna Lucille Holliday, was born March 28 1936, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She attended Oskaloosa schools and worked in Oskaloosa. Joyce met Willis Edward Gorley, a native Texan, and the two were married, October 31, 1954, in Holbrook, Arizona. Joyce and Willis had five children together and lived all over the United States. Joyce returned to Oskaloosa, August 1983, after the death of Willis. She worked for Dooley manufacturing, Mahaska County Hospital and even opened a restaurant in Eddyville, IA with best friend Helen Smith for a short time. Joyce married for a second time, June 17, 1994, to Joseph Kurimski. Joyce and Joe lived and worked at Miami Lake Park in Monroe County and upon retiring they moved to Bussey, Iowa. Joyce was an avid reader, a member of the Eagles. She loved music, dancing and spending time with family and friends.

Joyce’s family includes her husband, Joseph Kurimski of Bussey, Iowa; her 3 daughters: Mary Jo (Bill) Evans of Salt Lake City, Utah, Suzanne (Jim) Merritt of Kingman, Arizona, and Cindy (David) Overton of Kellogg, Iowa; a step-son Joseph (Cheryl) Kurimski Jr.; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Gorley; a son, Jerry Edward Gorley; a daughter, Cheri Louanna Cox; a grandson, Elijah William Gorley and a great grandson, Brandon David Blacksher.

Memorial services for Joyce will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with the family officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday; the family will be present from 9:30 a.m. to service time to greet friends and relatives. As was her wish Joyce’s body has been cremated and private family burial of the ashes will occur at a later time.
