Howard H. De Prenger
We lost our husband, best friend, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa this week. He was a quiet, kind, and gentle man. He had a wealth of respect for others and a steadfast faith expressed not so much by words but by actions. He had an abundance of personal strength, accepting what was handed him until the very end.
Howard H. De Prenger, son of William and Gertrude Voss De Prenger, was born on April 14, 1929, at his family farm home near Leighton, Iowa. Howard attended country school near Leighton and graduated from Pella Community High School.
On February 7, 1951, he married Marcia Van Maanen at the Reformed Church in Leighton. To this union four children were born: Beth, Ruth, Lee, and Susan.
Howard and Marcia farmed for fifty-five years in the Pella and Otley areas. In April of 2003, Howard was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. They moved to Pella in November 2003, but he stayed active on the farm. Howard enjoyed restoring AC tractors and tractor rides. He also enjoyed country music, his grandkids and their activities, and trips to Jersey Freeze.

Howard died On November 8, 2014 and burial was in Silent City Cemetery, Monroe, Iowa
In addition to his wife, children, and their families, he is survived by: his sister, Francene Hugen of Oskaloosa; sisters-in-law, Jeanne De Prenger of West Des Moines and Vivian Glendening of Pella; and many nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his siblings: Velma (Wilbur) Rempe and Betty (Bert) Van Arendonk; his in-laws: Bert Van Arendonk, Wilbur Rempe, Robert Hugen, Brandt Van Maanen; brother, Herb De Prenger; great-grandson, Reid Vander Linden; and nephews: Ken Hugen, Dennis Van Arendonk, and Keith Van Arendonk.
