Loren L. “Jumbo” Moomaw, 85, of Des Moines, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at Altoona Nursing and Rehab. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at the Colfax United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends following the service at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice or the Altoona Nursing and Rehab Activity Fund. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.

The son of Melvin Loren and Helen Grace (Zachary) Moomaw, Loren was born on Nov. 8, 1929, in Prairie City. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1948. He went to work at Maytag after high school and worked there for almost 40 years, retiring in 1988. On Dec. 28, 1971, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Dunlap-Harrelson in Las Vegas, Nev. Loren was a member of the Staves Methodist Church in Des Moines.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary Ann; children, Bryan (Karen) Moomaw of Newton, Debra (Mike) Williams of Runnells, Michael (Billie) Moomaw of Newton and a step-daughter, Sue Van Gorp of Kansas City. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Marilyn (Don) Osborn of Prairie City, Joyce Walker of Prairie City and Dale (Barb) Moomaw of Arkansas. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers-in-law, Lionel Wiggins and Buck Walker; and a step-son, George “Bud” Harrelson. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 20 Nov 2014.
