A private family service will be held for Carroll Swank. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carroll’s name have been designated.

Carroll Gene Swank, 80, the son of Pete Frederick and Ella (Vannewhuizen) Swank, was born Feb. 11, 1934, near Lynnville. On June 21, 1952, Carroll was united in marriage with Patricia J. Beintema, in Newton. He had devoted his life to his family. Carroll was employed by the Newton Police Department, Pepsi-Cola, and as an agent for People’s Natural Gas.

Carroll died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2014, at the Newton Health Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Debra in infancy and Carol McCartney; two grandsons in infancy, James Douglas and Jeffrey Gene; a sister Margaret Wearmouth; and a brother Pete Swank Jr.

Carroll will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Those left to honor Carroll’s memory include his wife Patricia; his daughters, Cindy Rhoads (Randy) and Kim Guthrie (John); his son Doug Swank (Terri); his 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren; his brother and sisters, Fred Swank, Barb Hartgers, Anna Mae Norvell and Louise McKinney; and his many, many friends.
