Forrest (Junior) Matherly, Jr., 91, formerly of Monroe, died at 7:43 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 in Lewisville, Texas at Providencia Assisted Living, the place that served as his home for the last two years.

He was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Moravia to Forrest Earl Matherly, Sr. and Edith Enyll Carr Matherly. A graduate of Monroe High School, he worked at the Monroe State Bank from 1945 until his retirement as executive vice president in 1987. Junior continued serving on the bank board of directors until 2006. Junior was very active in Monroe. He was instrumental in starting Gateway Recreation, served 15 years as the town's treasurer, and was a councilman for two years. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed taking his walks around town, improving his golf game and spending time with his family. He was always interested in hearing stories about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Junior is survived by his daughter, Deborah L. Davis (James); five grandchildren, Bridget (Jay) Evans of Altoona, Jennifer (Michael) Thedford of McKinney, Texas, Brent (Laura) Rickabaugh of West Des Moines, Ryan (Kristine) Davis of Red Lion, Pa and Brandon Davis of Lewisville, Texas; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Greer of Leesburg, Fla.; and brother, Carl (Mary) Matherly of Johnston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean Matherly; a daughter, Cynthia Suzanne Matherly; one great-grandchild, Jordan Lynn Evans; and a sister, Alice Ann Mcnamera.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. The family will greet friends following the service at the Monroe United Methodist Church for a time of food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Forrest's name to Ardent Hospice of Flower Mound, Texas or the Monroe United Methodist Church. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa Aug 2014.
