MONROE, Iowa Alman Burton Red Simbro, 74, of Monroe, died of cancer Monday, Dec. 2, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Monroe United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen E. H. Merrill, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe after noon Wednesday where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to the Powell Center at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines will be accepted.Mr. Simbro was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Marion County, the son of Charles and Alta Baker Simbro. He attended rural schools in Dunreath.
He married Mary Ruth Wilson in September 1971.
He had lived in Newton and Colfax, but spent most of his life in Monroe. He was an antique dealer and a retired steel worker. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II.Survivors include his wife; a son, Burton of Monroe; five daughters, Barb Foggia and Lynn Davidson, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marie Stogner of Albuquerque, N.M., Hazel Peats of Denver, Colo., and Linda Clark of Jacksonville, Fla.; a step-daughter, Debbie Karsten of Newton; a stepson, Kenny Van Der Pool of Newton; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Eugene of Knoxville; a sister, Arlene Hicks of Newton; three half brothers, James Simbro of Grinnell, Dennis Simbro of Baldwin, Wis., and Ronnie Simbro of Melroy, Ind.; and two half-sisters, Betty Shinn of Knoxville and Sharon Witterling of Cadet, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna Bryson; two brothers, Leroy and Raymond; and a sister, Viola Dietrich.
