Roger Stabenow, 65, of Conrad, died Sunday, September 21st, at his home.

A memorial gathering will be held from family and friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A 7:00 p.m. prayer will be recited. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.

Born on November 12th, 1948, in Charles City, Iowa, he was the son of Galen and Golda (Beck) Stabenow. He received his education in Greene, Iowa, where his family had moved prior to moving to Marshalltown.

Roger was united in marriage to Valerie Hartwell in 1972 and to their union three children were born- Tony, Todd and Lisa.

Roger served our country honorably in the United States Army stationed in Germany as directional specialist in the artillery. He returned to Marshalltown and worked with his dad, who owned Marshalltown Garbage Co. He was also employed at KIOWA, did construction and most recently was employed at Stone Sanitation. He was blessed to live with his daughter, Lisa, in Marshalltown, the Iowa Veterans Home and then Conrad.

Roger enjoyed time with his family and friends and dearly loved fishing, football, watching westerns and cooking (his grandkids loved his scalloped potatoes and ham).

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Tony of Miami and Todd and Lisa (Saul Vasquez) all of Marshalltown, three grandchildren- Adrianna Andrade, Kruz and Keyana Vasquez, his brothers Robert (Mary) of Newton and Donald of Marshalltown and sister Judy Bonzer of Marshalltown and many friends.

In death, Roger rejoined his parents, brother Larry and his four-legged companion Millie (named after Old Milwaukee beer). ~ The Des Moines Register Legacy, Sept 2014.
