Elizabeth Sally
Elizabeth Helene Sally, 83, of 766 1st Ave. W., a resident of Newton since 1952, died this morning, May 29, 1986, at the Heritage Manor Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart, Catholic Church. The Rev. E. William Kaska, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held following the 7 p.m. Friday rosary until 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.
Survivors are two sons, Willard W. Jr. of Newton and Thomas J. of Ames; two daughters, Joanna (Mrs. Howard) Berkenbosch and Mary Lou (Mrs. Lyle) Wilharm, both of Newton; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, James Novasconi of Wakefield, Mich.; and five sisters, Jennie (Mrs. Myron) Woodrow of Newton, Albena (Mrs. Ralph) Darr of Polk City, Mary (Mrs. Gilbert) Schnathorst of Des Moines, Amelia (Mrs. Amos) Zoutte of Knoxville and Margaret (Mrs. Herbert) Mc Daniel of Slater.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willard W. Sally Sr., in 1956, and a brother, Bert, in 1985.
Mrs. Sally was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Society, Newton Woman's Club and the Iowa State Teachers Association.
She had taught in the Newton Community School system, in rural Colfax, Reasnor and Mingo, and had worked in the Newton Public Library.
The daughter of John and Jenny Vardo, she was born May 4, 1903 near Galesburg, Ill., and. was graduated from Colfax Community High School and Drake University in Des Moines.
She was married July 10, 1924 in Colfax.
