Boat, Gertie Wisgerhof – 1871-1935

Sully – Gertie Wisgerhof Boat, eldest child of Tunie and Nellie Wisgerhof, was born in the Netherlands, July 6, 1871 and died at the Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton, December 23, 1935 at 1:30 p.m. at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 18 days.
She came to America with her parents when she was two years old, the family settling on a farm near Pella, later moving to the vicinity of Sully where she had since lived.
On October 12, 1893, she was united in marriage to A. C. Boat and to this union six children were born. She is survived by her husband and four children, John C. Boat of Kellogg; Mrs. Elmer Burnham of Newton; Mrs. Stanley Wood, of Sully and Harris E. Boat, of Kellogg. Two sons preceded her in death, Paul on Nov. 19, 1919, and Arthur M., on April 6, 1935. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. C. O. Holdsworth, of Sully and four brothers, Neal Wisgerhof of Laurel; John Wisgerhof of Lynnville; and Garret and Henry Wisgerhof of Sully an also 12 grandchildren.
She was converted at an early age and was a member of the Community church in Sully at the time of her death.
She had been in failing health for the past year and bedfast for the last ten weeks.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 25, at 1:30 p.m. from the Sully Community church with the Rev. Vern W. Butler of Keota delivering the funeral sermon, assisted by Rev. R. A. De Jong, pastor of the First Reformed church and Rev. Milton Schilde, pastor of the Community church.
Interment was in the Sully cemetery with six nephews serving as pallbearers: Oliver, Elza and Max Wisgerhof, Glenn and Donald Wisgerhof and Guy Wisgerhof.
A quartet composed of Herman Kooista, Dick Rolff, W. T. Conover and Albert Buitenwerf sang “In That City” and “Under His Wings”. Rev. Butler sang “One of Those Sweet Old Chapters.” Louis Conover was the accompanist.
Mrs. C. O. Macy and Mrs. C. J. Sparks were in charge of the flowers.
