Velma P. Gooding

Velma P. Reavis Gooding, 94, of 807 S. 2nd Ave. W., died of heart failure Tuesday evening, Jan. 19, 1988, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. James Vrba, pastor of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pella, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 4 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Assistance Fund will be accepted.

Survivors are two daughters, Louise Mc Mahon and Elaine Stotts, both of Newton; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Milo Reavis of Racine, Wis.; and three sisters, Naomi Pierce, Myrtle Baker and Clara Jones, all of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oby, Jan. 23, 1970, two sons, Clark and James, two sisters, Ida Tuller and Amy Reavis, a brother, Floyd Reavis, and a granddaughter, Sharon Hill Day, whom she had raised, Jan. 18, 1988.

The daughter of Elijah and Minnie Morgan Reavis, she was born Dec. 9, 1893 in Montezuma.
She was married to Oby Gooding Oct. 14, 1919 at Newton.
