Edwin Charles “Poppy” Ballard, 73, of Newton died Monday, May 26, 2014.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, May 30, at Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Memorials in Edwin’s name may be left at the church the morning of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Edwin, the son of Ernie Ernest and Marie (Roberts) Ballard, was born on Feb. 7, 1941, in Iowa City. He grew up in Seymour but lived most of his life in Newton. Edwin worked many years in area foundries.

He was united in marriage with Doloras Martin on June 1, 1996, in Albion. Later he worked construction, most recently for Custom Gutters. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, scraping aluminum, and watching old western movies.

He will be adored and missed by his loving wife, Doloras Ballard of Marshalltown; children, Ernie Ballard of Newton, Tina (Scott) Hesse of Newton; Ronda (Toby) Chesick of Conrad and Ryan (Brenda) Jensen of Leighton; a nephew, Jerry Ballard; his grandchildren, Andrew, Suzie (Josh), Edwin, Shawn, Kacee, Hope, Jacee, Titia, Ashely (Bryan) and Derick (Summer); great-grandchildren, Alexander, Emily, and Zoe; and a sister, Elizabeth.
