Rites For Baxter Woman Will Be Held Monday
BAXTER, IA - Funeral services for Mrs. Simon Exter of Colfax will be held at the Bethany Reformed church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. D. E. Bosma in charge. Burial will be in the Bethany Reformed cemetery.
Mrs. Exter, 78, died at her home here Friday morning following a year’s illness.

BAXTER, IA. - Funeral services for Mrs. Simon Exter who passed away Friday morning, Dec. 6, were held at the Bethany Reformed church, Monday afternoon, Dec. 9, at 2 o’clock with Rev. D. E. Bosma officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Albert Ludeking, Mrs. Ivan Waterman, and Miss Arlene Ludeking, with Miss Edith Krampe presiding at the organ.
Pallbearers were Henry Miller, Albert Ludeking, Herman Saak, Calvin Noah, Sr., Fred Kracht and August Stock.
Burial was at the Bethany Reformed cemetery.
Mrs. Exter died at the age of 78 years, one month and three days. Born at Hohenhausen in the province of Lippe, Detmold, Germany, on Nov. 3, 1862, she was known as Caroline Hoelscher. Growing up in this vicinity her young years were woven into the weal and woe of her home community. In May, 1882, 19 years of age, and accompanied by her brother Conrad, she boarded ship for America, arriving in due time and continuing westward to Newton, Jasper county, Ia., where already numerous friends from abroad had come. These now greeted their arrival and helped to make them feel at home in new surroundings. Finding employment in Newton, she abided there a years, after which she found employment for two years in Marshalltown.
On February 12, 1996, she was married to Simon Exter and together they set to farming in the vicinity of Baxter, continuing this occupation until the spring of 1916, when they made their home in Baxter, where until her demise, Mrs. Exter has resided 24 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1938.
The children born into their home are Mrs. Andy Brisel of near Ira, Mrs. Louis Saak of near Baxter, Simon and Henry, twins who died in infancy, William Herman Paul, who died at the age of 16, Mrs. Ralph Armstrong of Paradise, Calif., Mrs. Arthur Robinson, deceased a few years ago, Mrs. Albert Seig of Ira, and William Exter of Baxter.
The surviving children, 25 grandchildren and three great grandchildren mourn the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Mrs. Exter has been a resident of this community 18 years. She was a member of the Bethany Reformed church.
