Veda M. Holloway, the daughter of Alva and Nannie Belle (Faulkner) Tinsley, was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Richland, Mo. On June 30, 1951, Veda was united in marriage with Robert Holloway in Richland, Mo.

Veda had worked at a bank in Missouri and for the Vernon Company in Newton before becoming a full time mom. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton and was a former R.S.V.P. volunteer. She enjoyed playing the piano, women’s bowling league, watching the Cubs, tending to her roses, and especially spending time with family.

Veda died on Friday, May 23, 2014, at the Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. She was 84 years old. Veda was preceded in death by her husband Robert; a son, Steve; a grandson, Jesse; and a brother, Harold.

Those left to honor Veda’s memory include her children, Brad Holloway of Newton and Kris (Stan) Van Essen of Norwalk; her three grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Alice Miller and Doris Jones in Missouri.

The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Memorials may be designated in Veda’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa.
