Lois A. Egenes, 88, died Sunday morning, May 11, 2014, at her home at Park Centre in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, at the First Lutheran Church in Newton.

Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton have been entrusted with the arrangements.

A visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the funeral home.

Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Warren County Township Cemetery near McCallsburg. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa.

Lois A. Egenes, 88, passed away Sunday morning, May 11, 2014, at Park Centre in Newton.

Funeral services for Lois will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 16, at the First Lutheran Church in Newton. Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held Thursday, May 15, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Lois’ name to the First Lutheran Church or Alzheimer’s Association-Mid-Iowa Chapter. Burial will be 1 p.m., Friday, in the Warren County Township Cemetery, near McCallsburg.

Lois, the daughter of Carl J. and Marie (Unseld) Landdeck, was born November 6, 1925, near Grafton, IA. She followed in her father and grandfather’s footsteps by attending Wartburg College in Waverly, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She never truly retired from teaching; instructing music, English, German, voice and piano to many.

On January 3, 1953, Lois was united in marriage with Paul J. Egenes, in McCallsburg, and they resided in Newton. She devoted her life to her family, church and community. Lois was a member of P.E.O., Questers and rug hooking club. She was a very active member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton, where she played the organ for over fifty years. She was a lifelong teacher and learner.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Esther; and two brothers: Luther and Arthur Landdeck. Lois will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Those left to honor Lois’ memory include her husband Paul; her daughter Marie Leitao of Birmingham, MI; her son Matt (Dianne) Egenes of University Park, TX; her five grandchildren: Jack Leitao, Anna Leitao, Peter “P.J.” Egenes, Michael Egenes and Kate Leitao; and her many friends.
