Thomas Duane Gilpin, 53, of Pleasantville, formerly of Jasper County, died Friday, May 2, 2014. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 9, at the Newton Union Cemetery. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Thomas Duane Gilpin, 53, of Pleasantville, formerly of Jasper County, died on Friday, May 2, 2014. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Friday, May 9, at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials in Tom’s name may be left at the funeral home or at the graveside service. Thomas, the son of John and JoAnn (Diggins) Gilpin, was born on December 6, 1960 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He grew up in Reasnor and graduated from Monroe High School in 1979. Thomas was united in marriage with Laura Lynn Rickerd on April 28, 1987 in Newton. He worked at the Maytag Factory in Newton for over 20 years and later as an over the road truck driver. Thomas was a member of the UAW Local 997. He enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, and spending time with family and friends. Those left to honor Thomas’s memory are his sons, Lucas (Scena) Gilpin of Pleasantville and Isaac Gilpin (Caitlin Arguello) of Knoxville; grandchildren, Sky and Ava Gilpin; father, John Gilpin of Lynnville; sisters, Margaret Gilpin-Lambertus and Marilyn Gilpin, both of Newton; nephew, Jerry Lambertus; niece, Jessica Allman-Dunn; sister-in-law, Melody Allman; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Beth Rickerd; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn Gilpin; wife, Laura Gilpin in 2010; and a brother, Robert Joseph Gilpin. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa.
