Sharon Rose Dickinson Smith, 58, 2215 S. 8th Ave. E., a longtime resident of Newton, died Thursday, July 20, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of complications of surgery.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Prayer services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The Rev. Ernie Braida, pastor of the Newton Sacred Heart Catholic church, will conduct services.
Burial will be in Wittemberg Cemetery, north of Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral after 9 a.m. Sunday and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials to a fund in Mrs. Smith’s name will be accepted.
Survivors are her husband, Donald; her mother, Mary Margaret Hawkins of Newton; three brothers, Dean Hawkins, Michael Hawkins and Harold Hawkins, all of Newton; three sisters, Donna (Mrs. Don) Dickerson and Laine (Mrs. Roy) Hawkins, both of Newton, and Darlene (Mrs. Kenneth) Garwick of Des Moines; a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, two brothers, Robert L. Hawkins and Johnny D. Hawkins; four brothers in infancy; and a sister, Colleen Redington.
Mrs. Smith, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was a correspondent in the legal department at the Vernon Co.
The daughter of Burl E. and Mary Margaret Dickinson Hawkins, she was born Feb. 21, 1937 in Belmond and attended Newton schools.
She was married to Donald G. Smith Dec. 13, 1958 in Newton.
