Ruth A. Funk, 100, of Newton died on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Newton Healthcare.
A graveside service will be at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery with a coffee time following at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.
Ruth, the daughter of Ernest and Vinnie (Moffet) Brees, was born on Dec. 24, 1912, in Dallas, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Dallas. Ruth was united in marriage with Elster Funk on Nov. 20, 1930, in Chariton. They moved to Newton in 1936. Ruth worked at Humkey’s Bakery and the Vernon Company in addition to being a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, animals and flower gardening.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Dolores Ferraz and Marlene Funk, both of Newton; grandson, Steve Ferraz of Newton; her two great-grandchildren, Lisa (Justin) Kampman and Tawny Ferraz; and two great-great-grandchildren, Gavin and Journey. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a grandson, Rick Ferraz.
