Maxwell N. Beavers, 77, of Colfax, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Visitation will be at 9 a.m., one hour prior to the service at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Memorials may be directed to the Maxwell N. Beavers Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.

The son of Newell and Nellie (Bernt) Beavers, Max was born on June 16, 1936, in Decatur County, Iowa. He graduated from Leon High School in 1955. On Oct. 16, 1965, he was united in marriage to Betty Thrapp in Iowa City. Max worked as a Produce Manager for Hy-Vee for 36 years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, riding bicycles and camping.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Betty; daughters, Charlotte (Paul) Smith of Mingo, Charlet (Larry) Daft of Colfax, Carol Berry of Colfax, Twyla Berry of Colfax and Jean (Bill) Quinlan of Oxford; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Shirley Owens of Leon; a brother, Johnny Beavers of Texas; and a sister-in-law, Dolores Clements of Missouri.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughters, Marsha Baxter, Lisa Rachels and Rita Beavers; and a brother Jim Beavers. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
