Mrs. H. M. Vernocum received word from National City, Calif., stating her brother-in-law, Harry Whitman, had been run down by a truck, February 8th, and died from the results Feb. 10th. His wife, who survives, was the youngest sister of Mrs. Vernocum and will be best remembered here as Susie Lee.

He was an engine inspector for the railroad and in one more year would have been retired with a pension. Burial was made at San Bernadino, Calif. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines (IA) Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News, Thurs 18 Feb 1932
