Virginia Evangel Hutchins

Virginia Evangel Hutchins, 82, of 2305 E. 19th St. N., died Monday, April 24, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of injuries to the brain suffered from a fall at her home April 21.

Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church Chapel in Newton with Dr. Emmanuel Dass, pastor, officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow services in the church dining room.

The Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Memorials to the Animal Rescue League will be accepted.

The daughter of Frederick W. and Mary A. Stewart Myers, she was born Feb. 15, 1918, in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in 1936 and married Frank Hutchins April 5, 1942, in Oswego, Kan.

A former resident of Des Moines, she moved to Newton in 1949. Mrs. Hutchins was employed as a lathe and machine operator by the Thombert Company in Newton for 20 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton and the Thombert Retiree Club.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Victoria of Newton, Rodney and Angela of Kellogg and Russell and Susan of Winona, Minn.; a brother, Jerry Myers of Keosauqua; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Fri 27 Apr 2000.
