The Patterson family moved to Conover when Pat was in grade school, and Newton-Conover has been her home since that time.

A life member of The Good Earth Garden Club, she also volunteered for over a quarter century in various capacities at The Catawba Valley Medical Center and was recognized as a lead volunteer for the Medical Center's Red Cross Auxiliary. Pat was a "helping hand" volunteer for Hospice of Catawba Valley and recognized for her services in the Catawba County Department of Social Services Home-Delivered Meals Program. Pat was the type of servant-leader who gave generously to her community.
