Velma L. Reese

Velma L. Carter Reese, 88, a lifelong resident of the Colfax area, died Tuesday, October 24, at the Newton Health Care Center.

Services were held Thursday, October 26, at The Howard Street Christian Church, with Rev. Tom Burns, pastor of the Elkhart Christian Church, conducting services. Interment took place at the Colfax Cemetery.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Eben Van Dusseldorp of Colfax; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alpha in 1959, her parents, five brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Reese was a member of The Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax and the Order of the Eastern Star.

The daughter of Irwin and Mary Etta Cowman Carter, she was born October 18, 1906, in Jasper County.

She was married to Alpha Reese on December 21, 1929, in Adel.

Mrs. Reese worked as a secretary/receptionist in various offices.
