Bernadene Tinnermeier

Bernadine I. Tinnermeier, 87, 847 Highway T-12, North, Newton, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Saturday evening, Dec. 9, of a heart attack at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Newton First United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Tuesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the Jasper County Museum will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, Lester A.; two daughters, Betty L. Shrum and Karolyn Kay Smothers, both of Newton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Paul Rumbaugh of Newton and George Rumbaugh of Baxter, and two sisters, Fern Richeson of Rhodes and Eva Morrison of Collins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Shirley Miller, three brothers and five sisters.

Mrs. Tinnermeier was a member of the Newton First United Methodist Church, Builders Sunday School Class, Elizabeth Circle, Amboy Grange, the HM Club, the Jasper County Farm Bureau and the NN 7 H Club.

A homemaker, she worked as an aide at Skiff Medical center for several years.

The daughter of George L. and Fannie Estella Kendig Rumbaugh, she was born Aug. 21, 1908 in Mingo.

A graduate of Mingo Community High School, she completed nurse’s aide classes.

She was married to Lester A. Tinnermeier April 24, 1929 at St. John’s Church northeast of Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Dec 1995.
