David Morgan, Miner, Dies In Colfax
COLFAX, IA – David Morgan, 89, died at 12:15 Thursday morning, Oct. 30, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Thomas Baldwin at Colfax.
Mr. Morgan was born in Wales and began training for life work as a miner in the mines of Wales at the age of eight years. Mr. and Mrs. David Morgan came from Wales to Iowa and settled in the southern part of the state, later coming to Colfax 50 years ago.
He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Baldwin of Colfax and Mrs. Morgan Jones of Des Moines. One son, David D. Morgan preceded him in death about 20 years ago. Claud Baldwin of Newton is his grandson.
Funeral services are to be held in the Baptist Church of Colfax, Sunday at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Albert Vander Ploeg officiating. Burial will be in Colfax Highland cemetery.

COLFAX, IA – David Morgan was born in Volinvole, South Wales January 12, 1852 and passed away at his home in Colfax October 30, 1941 at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 29 days.
He was united in marriage to Martha Hughes Dec. 23, 1872. To this union a son and two daughters were born. The son David passed away Nov. 13, 1920.
He is survived by his widow, daughters Mrs. Thomas Baldwin of Colfax and Mrs. Morgan Jones of Des Moines, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, a nephew in this country and a large number of relatives in Wales.
He was a miner by trade beginning his life work at the age of 8 in the mines of Wales.
Member of Baptist Church of Wales
He was united with the Baptist church in Capcoch, South Wales. He came to the United States in 1886. November 10, 1910 he united with the Baptist church of Colfax. For many years he served his church as a deacon and was still a member of the board at the time of his death.
Services Nov. 2
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, November 2 at the Baptist church with Rev. Albert Vander Ploeg officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Lazarus Johns, Mrs. Alfred Tobias, Mrs. John Rinker and John Davis accompanied by Mrs. George Rinker.
The flower committee was Mrs. William Abram, Mrs. John Pratt and Mrs. George Rinker.
Pallbearers were Claude Baldwin, David Baldwin, David Jones, David Lance, Emerald Kennedy, and Reese Jones.
Interment was in the Colfax Highland cemetery.
