Rites Today For Albert Bollhoefer

Albert W. Bollhoefer, 84, who had resided his entire life on a farm in Malaka Township, north of Newton, died Monday evening, Oct. 5, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, today, at the First United Church of Christ (Witemberg).

The Rev. Robert Snyder, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery Association or the Heart Fund will be accepted.

Wallace Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Clara; daughter, Mrs. Robert W. (Shirley Ann) Suckow of Milwaukee, Wis.; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Martha White of State Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mamie Sietmann, and three brothers, John, Ed and Grant.

Mr. Bollhoefer, active in church and community affairs, had been a long-time member of the council of St. John’s Church and for many years had served as director of Malaka No. 6 rural school. He also had served as a member of the boards of the Mayflower Retirement Home in Grinnell, the Rural Electric Cooperative and the Christian Rural Overseas program (CROP).

An avid steam engine fan, he had participated in many steam engine activities and had collected more than 8,000 photographs of steam engines.

The farm on which Mr. Bollhoefer had resided, except for 1917 and 1918 when he served in the Army during World War I, was awarded a Century Farm plaque in 1976.

Mr. Bollhoefer was a baptized and confirmed member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

The son of Christof and Mary Flage Bollhoefer, he was born Feb. 14, 1897 on the family farm and was educated in Malaka Township schools.

He was married to Clara Esther Achtemeier Jan. 18, 1922. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines (IA) Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News, Thurs 8 Oct 1981.
