David C. Finch, 74, of Newton, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Newton. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 2, at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton is handling arrangements. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

David C. Finch, 74, of Newton died on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Skiff Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 3, at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. The family will greet friends from 2-4 P.M., Sunday, March 2, at the church. Memorials to Cornerstone Bible Fellowship or to Skiff Hospice may be left at the church or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

David, the son of Carl Jennings and Genevieve Irene (Dawson) Finch, was born on May 17, 1939 in Newton. He grew up in Bondurant and graduated from Bondurant High School in 1957. David received his AA degree from DMACC and took additional college courses through the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and Drake University. He served his country in the U.S. Air Guard and in the U.S. Navy. By trade, David was a talented welder and also worked as a farmer. In 1990, he moved back to Newton.

On April 24, 1993, David was united in marriage with Joyce A. (Weir) Hill at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He was a member of the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, NRA, Farm Bureau, American Legion Post 111, and the I-Club. David was an active outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He played guitar and sang in a band for many years. David was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Those left to honor David’s memory are his wife, Joyce A. Finch of Newton; children, Shellee (Steve) Sesker of Bondurant, Shane (Jana) Finch of Ocala, FL, and KC (Gina) Finch of Cedar Rapids; his step-children, Chad (Amanda) Hill of Bellevue, NE and Stacie (Nick) Bunse of Newton; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Lewis (Ardy) Finch of Cedar Rapids; sister, Deloris (Harry) Linn of Bondurant; and sister-in-law, Janet Clemens of McCallsburg. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Finch; mother, Genevieve Finch Slocum; step-father, Clair Slocum; parent-in-laws, Raymond and Nina Weir; and two sisters in infancy.
