Eva Mae Ver Steeg

Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home for Eva Mae (Mrs. Arie) Ver Steeg, 79, who died Feb. 15 at the Pella Community Hospital.

Officiating at the services was the Rev. Wayne Hall. Organist was Mrs. Leroy A. Van Zee. Casket bearers were Merle Zickel, Carroll Zickel, Frank Zickel, Jr., Wilbur Ver Steeg, Art Ver Steeg and Ray Ver Steeg.

Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Pella.

Eva Mae Ver Steeg was born May 23, 1897 in Jasper County, the daughter of peter and Maddy Mudgett Zickel. She married Arie Ver Steeg Nov. 24, 1920 in Newton.

The couple lived near Galesburg and was engaged in farming until 1962, when they moved to Pella. For the past five years, they lived with their daughter, Mrs. Roy Vander Beek.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter Verda Nadene, Mrs. Roy Vanderbeek; a grandson, Dennis Lee Vander Beek; and two great-grandchildren, all of Pella. Also surviving are three sisters: Leona, Mrs. Dan Montgomery, and Mrs. Lettie Bond, both of Oskaloosa; and Mrs. Arlowene Schultz of Ewert.

Mrs. Ver Steeg was a member of the Christian Church of Galesburg and she attended church at the Trinity Reformed Church of Pella as long as her health allowed. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines (IA) Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News.
