Verlin Pulver

The Rev. Verlin Pulver, 64, of 511 N. 9th Ave E., a resident of Newton since May, 1994, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 4, at his home of cancer.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton.

The Rev. J. Ronald Burnet, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Robert Humrickhouse of the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches, will conduct services. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery near Prairie City.

Friends may call at the Wallace-pence Funeral Home after noon Friday and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial to Continental Baptist Missions will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Betty; a son Nathanael of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Clarice Pulver of Madison, Wis.; a granddaughter; a brother, Marvin of Runnells; and three sisters, Norma Smith of Des Moines, Mildred Gilbert of Prairie City and Audry Murry of Artesia, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and three brothers.

Rev. Pulver, a missionary pastor of the Pocahontas Regular Baptist Church, was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.

He had served in the Army’s Airborne Infantry for three years.

The son of Francis and Dessie Icle Gulling Pulver, he was born Sept. 19, 1930 on a farm southwest of Prairie City, was a 1949 graduate of Prairie City Community High School and attended the Omaha Baptist Bible College for four years, graduating in 1962.

He was married to Betty Black June 19, 1953 in Clarksville, Tenn.

Mr. Pulver also had lived in Clarksville, Tenn., Omaha, Gretna and Crete, Neb., Spooner, Wis., Hull, Ill., and Woden, Prairie City and Pocahontas. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines (IA) Register or the Newton (IA) Daily News, Thurs 5 Jan 1995.
