Mildred Sample

BLOOMFIELD — Mildred Pauline Sample, 91, of Newton, and former longtime resident of Bloomfield, died Feb. 20, 2014, in Newton under care of Skiff Hospice. She was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Davis County, to Clarence and Lora Widner Schindler. She married Donald Sample on Sept. 29, 1940, in Pulaski. He preceded her in death Jan. 13, 2013.

Mildred was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed being a homeroom mother, gardening, spending time with her family and being active in her church.

She is survived by three sons, Leroy (Polly) Sample of Estero, Fla., Eugene (Nancy) Sample of West Des Moines, Vern (Cindy) Sample of Urbandale; a daughter, Karen (Ed) Meade of Newton; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl (Evelyn) Schindler of Pulaski; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Schindler of Agency and Helen Sample of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Floyd and Harold Schindler.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Richard Friend officiating. Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday with the family present to greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
