Mrs. Wm. Mencke Dies Friday; Rites on Monday

Mrs. William Mencke, 62, lifetime Jasper County resident, died at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at her farm home in 11 miles northeast of Newton after an illness of six months.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon at the Zoar Evangelical and Reformed Church North of Newton. A short prayer service preceding the service will be held at 1:30 o'clock at the Boyd Funeral Home in Baxter.

Rev. A. H. Tendick, pastor, will officiate at the rights. Burial will be at the Zoar church cemetery.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Achtemeier, she was born on a farm near Laurel July 26, 1886. She received her education in the rural schools of Jasper County.

On March 24, 1924, she was married to William Mencke. Mrs. Mencke with a confirmed member of the Zoar Evangelical and Reformed Church and was active in the women's Guild and Women workers organizations of the church.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. George H. Swalwell; two grandchildren, Linda Diane and Loretta K Swalwell; three sisters, Mrs. George W. Bohne and Mrs. Albert W. Bollhoefer for of Newton and Mrs. H. H. Eilert of Laurel; two brothers, Arthur Achtmeier and Elmer Achtmeier, both of Laurel and a number of nieces and nephews. ~ The newton (IA) Daily News, Sat 4 June 1949.

Mencke Rites Held Mon.

Funeral services for Mrs. William Mencke, 62, lifelong resident of Jasper County were held Monday afternoon at the Boyd Funeral Home in Baxter and at the Zoar Evangelical and Reformed Church, North of Newton.

Pallbearers Fye Buckles, Henry Schmidt, George D. Swalwell, John Boedeker, Roy Hotger and Fred Klein.

Music was furnished by Mrs. A. H. Tenick, pianist, and Louis Toedt, Soloist.
