DeWitt L. Mallory

DeWitt L. Mallory, 77, of Agate Apartments, Box 112, Newton, a native of Newton who returned to Newton 1967, died following a heart attack Tuesday morning, March 1, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Elder Glen Oswalt, pastor of the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Veterans’ Section of Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to a fund in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, Jack “Tupelo” Mallory of Des Moines; a daughter, JoAnne Stier of Newton; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by her parents, wife, Ann, three brothers, Eldon, Leslie and Leonard; three sisters, Christina, Lucille and Leona; two granddaughters; and a grandson.

Mr. Mallory, a member of the American Vets and a Navy veteran of World War II, had worked for the Maytag Co. prior to World War II.

The son of Bill and Martha Wojciecowski Mallory, he was born Jan. 15, 1911 in Newton. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News wed 2 mar 1988
