Monroe - Mars. Claude (Lena) Rees, 96, a longtime resident of the Knoxville, Prairie City and Monroe areas, died Sunday evening, June 2, at the Westridge Manor in Knoxville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.

Dr. Otto Steele, pastor of the Monroe United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Survivors are a sister, Jennie Jones of Monroe; three granddaughters, Marjory Andrews and Claudean Avon, both of Knoxville; and Nancy Cooney of Ashville, N.C., and two grandsons, Robert Rees and Richard Rees, both of Knoxville; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Carl, four sisters and two grandsons.

Mrs. Rees was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and the Women’s relief Corps.

The daughter of George and Mary Barber Koder, she was born Nov. 26, 1888 in Red Rock.

She was married Dec. 31, 1906 in Newton. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News, Mon 3 June 1985.
