J. M. Kating, Former Newton Resident, Dies
J. M. Kating, 71, of Park Ridge, Ill., a former resident of Newton, died Sunday at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Edgebrook, Ill., Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Edgebrook.
Survivors are his wife, Merle; a son, John F. of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Marilyn) Rowan of Park Ridge, Ill.; five grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. George Loar of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. C. E. (Ona) Broderick.
Mr. Kating had been assistant treasurer of Standard Oil Co. in Chicago, Ill.
The son of T. J. and Julie Moffitt Kating; he was born April 29, 1905 at Newton, was graduated from Newton Community High School and Cornell College in Mount Vernon.
He was married to Merle Denger in Davenport. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Monday, January 30, 1978.
