John A. Murdaugh Dies Wednesday; Rites Saturday

MONROE – John Arthur Murdaugh, 88, of Monroe died Wednesday at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church in Monroe.

The Rev. Douglas Maben, pastor of the church, the Rev. Eldon Pals, pastor of the Monroe Baptist Church, and the Rev. Sam Hochstatter, pastor of the Des Moines First Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.

Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions to the United Presbyterian Church organ fund will be accepted.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Blaine (Noverseen) Lynch of Des Moines and Mrs. Fred (Josephine) Aalbers of Monroe; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife Feb. 18, 1976.

The son of Andrew and Sathronia Kerr Murdaugh, he was born Jan. 22, 1889 at Henderson, Tenn.

He was married to Ruby Sharp July 24, 1921 at Henderson, Tenn. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Friday, January 20, 1978
