Steven D. Petro, 38, of Newton died on Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 13, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 4-7 P.M., Wednesday, February 12, at the funeral home. Memorials for Steven may be made out to Lisa Petro and left at the funeral home.

Steven, the son of John Terry Scott and Linda Lee Petro, was born on December 17, 1975 in Buffalo, NY. At six months old, the family moved to Iowa and later made their home in Newton. Steven met his future wife, Lisa Lust in 1995 and they were married on October 2, 1999 at the Moose Lodge in Newton.

Steven worked as a Journeyman Plumber from 1998-2012 at Brooker and Brookwood. In 2012, he became an independent contractor doing lawn care, snow removal, painting, siding, roofing, and tiling. Steven was a member of the Christian Life Church and the Newton Recovery Group. He was a fun-loving man, with an infectious laugh, who liked to play practical jokes on people or give them a good scare. He always stated that beauty was only skin deep and that it was in the eye of the beholder. Steven enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt, fish, mushroom hunt, and take his dogs for walks.

Those left to honor Steven’s memory are his wife, Lisa Petro of Newton; children, Jamie Petro, Tanner Petro, and Mariah Petro, all of Newton; mother, Linda Petro of Newton; father, John Terry (Penny) Scott of Des Moines; his four sisters, Tracy Chamberlain of Newton, Terra Scott of Newton, Cassandra Lee of Des Moines, and Jamie Scott of Des Moines; and his many nieces and nephews, including Allison Chamberlain, Taylor Lust, Austin Lust, and Tucker Lust. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Scott; brother-in-law, Brian Chamberlain; aunt, Sarah Jane Petro; Grandpa Howell; and a special little boy, Kyle V. Edwards Lyons.
