Diane Gannon
Colfax, Iowa
Diane Gannon left this earthly life on February 7, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Iowa Cremation of Cedar Rapids will perform the cremation, and the service will be a private family gathering at a later date.
Diane graduated from Colfax High School in 1957. She was a champion baton twirler, winning first place medals in numerous contests around Iowa. She once performed on "Soldiers Field" in Chicago at age nine. While in high school she led the Colfax Marching Band.
Diane was a wonderful homemaker. Cooking, sewing and interior decorating were her joys throughout married years, and she served her family and others well with her skills.
She married Gordon Hansel, of Newton in 1957. After his army years, Gordon was hired by the Maytag Company as a regional manager. This position took them to homes in: North Dakota, and Minnesota where they stayed to raise their family, a daughter LeAnne, and son Brian. Gordon passed away of a heart attack at the age of 49, in 1985.
In 1987 Diane met and married Larry Gannon, a teacher from the Colfax-Mingo area. They lived in a country home between Colfax and Mingo, "On Golden Pond" for 26 years. They enjoyed taking care of their beloved cats, geese, and other creatures as well as gardening.
Larry lovingly cared for "Di" in the final years of her illness, at home.
Diane enjoyed numerous trips to the cottage at Diamond Lake near Willmar, Minnesota and to the Yellowstone area of Montana to visit her daughter's home. She had a great love for her family and family always came first.
Diane leaves behind, and will be missed by: Husband, Larry Gannon, daughter, LeAnne Hayes (Dave) of Montana, and son Brian Hansel (Lori) of St. Cloud, Minnesota. A grandson, Jordan, and granddaughter Andrea of Otsego, Minnesota, a sister Margo Edwards (Dave) of Mitchellville, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents: H.P. and Margaret Lockhart of Colfax, and her first husband, Gordon Hansel.
