Laura Lee (Van Horn) Preston, 72, of Melbourne died on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at her home.

A celebration of life will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The celebration will begin with a time of sharing memories. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Laura Lee (Van Horn) Preston, 72, of Melbourne, died on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at her home. A celebration of life will be held from 4-6 P.M., Tuesday, January 21, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The celebration will start with a time of sharing memories. Burial will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter. Memorials to Skiff Hospice may be left at the funeral home. Laura, the daughter of William and Katherine (Norell) Van Horn, was born on November 3, 1941 in Estherville. She graduated from Estherville High School and later from Beauty School in Des Moines. Laura was united in marriage with Russell Preston on June 15, 1961. They made their home in Melbourne. Laura was a bookkeeper for Miller Oil in Melbourne for many years and also a relief post master at the post offices in Melbourne and Baxter for 20 years. She was a member of a women’s club that met once and week and a swimming club. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards with her dear friends, Dave and Mary Anctil, going to plays with Beth at the Civic Center, reading on her nook, and working on puzzles. Laura is the wife of Russell Preston of Melbourne; mother of Shawn Preston; mom to Beth Preston; grandma to Heather, Zac, and Ben; and a sister to Joe (Lonna) Van Horn. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Barbara; and a brother, Russell.
